Date field format and options

Customize PandaDoc date fields to autofill with signing or custom dates, set format defaults, limit date options, and more.

Updated this week

Using the PandaDoc date field, you can set a specific date format you need, enter rules for the date, or set it up to autofill the signing date for document recipients.

Skip to:

Date field format

You can set a default date field format in Workspace settings so all new date fields will share the same format. This way, you won't need to set it every time!

Go to Settings > Workspace defaults, navigate to Default date format, set the default date field format, and select Save changes. Any new field you add to a document will now follow this format.

You can also set the format for an individual date field within a document. Simply select the field properties, and then the format of the date field.

Autofill with signing date

Note: The signing date is auto-filled based on the recipient’s time zone and cannot be changed manually.

  1. Open a template, document, content library item, or form and add a date field

  2. Select the field, then select Properties on the floating panel

  3. Select Signing date from the “Autofill with" dropdown, then send the document

Admin users on the account can set the date field to include the document's signing date by default in Settings > Workspace defaults. This way all new date fields users add will inherit this setting.

Note: As we’re gradually releasing this functionality to our customers, you might not see it within your account right away.

Once your recipient opens the document, the signing date will be autofilled. (Note that the date is based on the recipient's time zone.)

If the recipient finishes signing the document on a date after they began signing it, the signing date will be automatically updated.

Warning: The signature certificate added to a completed document’s PDF contains signing dates in UTC format, so the signing date in the document may differ from the signing date in the certificate.

Autofill with custom date

You can utilize the date field, which will automatically populate with a specific number of days after the document is signed. This feature can be applied in various contracts and agreements to establish deadlines, payment terms, notice periods, and more. For example, it can be used to specify that payments are due 30 days after signing.

  1. Open a template, document, content library item, or form and add a date field

  2. Select the field, then select Properties on the floating panel

  3. Select “Autofill with Custom date”, and specify the number of days offset from the signing date (the default option is three days)

Once a recipient opens the public view, the field will automatically be populated with a date that is the specified number of days after the current date.

Note: The maximum number of days you can enter is 365.

Set available dates

You can also limit which dates the recipient can select when they fill out the document. Select the date field properties, then navigate to the Available dates section. By default, it will show Any, but you can change this to Past dates or Future dates.

As a result, the recipient assigned to this field will be able to select a date only either in the past (a date of birth, for example) or the future — one or the other, not both.

Other settings

You can also either set the date field required, or mask the field value/input. To do this, navigate to the Properties section. Go here to learn more about masking data within fields.
