How to flatten a PDF for use in PandaDoc

Flattening your PDF ensures that all layers are combined into a single, uneditable layer, improving its appearance and compatibility in PandaDoc.

Updated over 10 months ago

Sometimes, PDFs uploaded to PandaDoc may display inconsistently due to multiple layers within the file. Flattening your PDF ensures that all layers are combined into a single, uneditable layer, improving its appearance and compatibility in PandaDoc.

Here are two simple ways to flatten your PDF:

Using your browser

You can flatten your PDF using the built-in print-to-PDF feature in most browsers.

  1. Drag and drop your PDF file it into a browser window (e.g., Chrome, Edge) or right-click the file and choose Open with > Your Browser.

  2. Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+P (Windows) or Command+P (Mac) and select 'Save as PDF' or 'Microsoft Print to PDF'

Using a PDF Reader

If you have a PDF reader installed, such as Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can flatten your PDF using the print-to-PDF function.

  1. Open the PDF in your PDF reader

  2. Go to File > Print or click the Print icon in the toolbar.

  3. Save the flattened file. Click Print, enter a new file name, and choose a location to save it.

Tips:

  • You can adjust settings like page size and orientation in the print dialog if needed.

  • Open the flattened file in PandaDoc to ensure it displays as expected.
