Transitioning from Creator and eSign Licenses to Standard Licenses with Custom Roles
Updated over a month ago

As part of PandaDoc’s initiative to simplify our licensing and pricing models, Creator and eSign licenses will be discontinued. Upon your account’s next renewal, these licenses will automatically transition to Standard licenses. This guide will walk you through how to replicate the permissions and functionality of your current licenses using the Custom Roles feature included with your Standard license. Below, you’ll find detailed instructions and answers to frequently asked questions to assist you during this transition.

How to replicate Creator and eSign permissions with custom roles

The Team Member role in PandaDoc offers many permissions similar to the Creator and eSign licenses, making it a great starting point for setting up Custom Roles. Follow these steps to customize roles that match your existing permissions:

Note: Only the account owner can create custom roles.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Roles

  2. Select Create role.

  3. Name the role (e.g., "Creator License" or "eSign License") for clarity.

  4. In the Copy permissions dropdown, select Team Member.

  5. Click Apply. This will pre-populate the role with permissions similar to your Creator or eSign licenses.

  6. Adjust the permissions to match your current licenses

FAQs: Understanding the Transition to Custom Roles

Why are Creator and eSign licenses being phased out?

To streamline our offerings, PandaDoc is consolidating licenses. Custom Roles within the Standard license allow for the same functionality with greater flexibility.

How do Custom Roles benefit me?

Custom Roles enable you to replicate the same permissions as your current licenses while giving you the option to adjust permissions based on your team's specific needs.

Will this affect pricing?

Yes, your pricing will change when transitioning to Standard licenses. However, Custom Roles ensure that you maintain the same permissions without disrupting workflows. We’re here to help minimize the impact of these changes.

When will my account switch to Standard licenses?

The switch will happen automatically at your next renewal. Until then, your current licenses will remain active, allowing time for preparation.

What happens at renewal?

Your Creator and eSign licenses will automatically convert to Standard licenses. Your account will reflect the new terms, and you’ll have full access to Custom Roles for managing team permissions.

How do I set up Custom Roles?

Use the guide above to recreate your current permissions. If needed, PandaDoc’s Success Team is available to assist or manage the setup for you.

Will my workflows change with Custom Roles?

No, your workflows will remain unchanged. Custom Roles are designed to replicate your current Creator and eSign permissions, ensuring no disruption to your processes.

How long does it take to set up Custom Roles?

Setting up Custom Roles is quick, usually taking just a few minutes. Follow the step-by-step instructions above or reach out to our team for support.

Can we delay the transition?
