Managing the Content on Your Document
In last week’s post, Learning Your Way Around PandaDoc, we learned how to navigate the PandaDoc Dashboard and where to go to start creating documents. This week, we will learn about managing content during the document-building process.
This post is the first in a series about document design. Today, we will learn how to add Content Builder Blocks and Fields to a document.
What are Content Builder Blocks & Fields
PandaDoc wants to ensure you can add the necessary information to your documents and templates. You will do this with Content Builder Blocks and Fields.
Content Builder Blocks are the structural foundation for templates and documents. They are how you will build and add content to your documents and templates. The following Content Builder Blocks are available:
- Text
- Image
- Video
- Table
- Pricing Table
- Table of Contents
- Page Break
- Smart Content
You can add Content Builder Blocks to documents and templates created from scratch and documents that are uploaded into PandaDoc.
Fields are used to collect information from document recipients, such as signatures, initials, and more. The following Field options are available:
- Text Field
- Signature
- Initials
- Date
- Checkbox
- Radio Buttons
- Dropdown
- Card Details
- Collect Files
We have a great course available for you in the PandaDoc Learning Center about adding Fields to your documents and assigning them to recipients.
Adding Content Blocks & Fields
To add a Content Builder Block to a document or template, you will simply click on the Content Builder Block and drag/drop it where you would like it to be positioned on the page.
In the GIF below, I added two Content Builder Blocks so you can see the blue line that shows when a second one is added. The blue line that appears is designed to help with positioning and alignment. You may read more about this in the Help Center article linked above.
To add a Field to a document, you will drag and drop it the same way:
Once all necessary fields are added to the document or template, you can assign the fields to recipients so the recipients will be able to fill out their designated fields.
If you are using a Template, which we highly recommend to save time and increase efficiency, then be sure to watch the PandaDoc 101: Creating Templates & Approval Workflows video. You will learn how to get Template Roles added so you can automatically assign recipients to Fields in a document.
Recap & What’s Next
Now that you are an expert at managing content in your documents, keep an eye out for new posts in the coming weeks to learn more about capabilities designed to speed up your document creation process.
Next week, we will learn about adding a Theme to your documents and templates and how the theme can be saved and used in your workspace.
If you want a headstart, join one of our live Applying Themes & Branding classes or take a self-paced version on the PandaDoc Learning Center.
