Edit Existing Template
I have an existing template and I want to make an update - need to update a graphic within the template. Is there a way to edit the existing template, or do I need to create a new template with the change?
Yes, you can edit an existing template. However, if you are not using API or Zapier, I always recommend duplicating the template and making the edits to the copy. This is so nothing gets messed and you have a backup.
Depending on how the template was created you should be able to change any text, images, and or add anything you would like.
I'm not sure I understand the question. You can start adding text, editing text, clicking on images to replace them with a new image. However, any edits made to the template will reflect on any future documents created from that template - which is why I always recommend to duplicate the template before editing.
However, if you make a mistake you can revert the template (or document) back to a previous time with Version History.
I think Rocky is a Bot. If you ask a closed question you get a "yes / no" answer. The real question asked by Kelly, and reaffirmed by Rebecca is "how do I edit a template without having to create a duplicate"? I think we've all spotted typos in our templates and want a simple solution if possible. Thanks
We should probably get smarter bots than me.
The answer is simple, open the template and edit the content within the template. Anything is editable. Click in the text box and change or add text:
Click an image and then click the little arrow to replace it with a new image:
Or you can add in whole new blocks if needed:
All of these edits were done within an existing template.
If the question is about editing a sent document, then you would need to put the document back to draft status and then edit what needs to be edited. You would then need to re-send the document. More on editing a sent document can be found here.

Many thanks Rocky! I've inherited Pandadoc for the first time and don't find it particularly intuitive. Apologies if the question appears dumb. None of my text on my templates is editable. I just need to capitalise a couple of letters and change some punctuation - really minor stuff. Does this mean I have to place a new box over the top of the old text and retype it (making sure I use the same font and size etc)? Thanks again.
For uploaded template, you would need to edit the original/source document. Once the edits are made, you can then replace the current source file within the template:
If the new updates aren't too many changes, the layout too much you shouldn't need to move any of the fields around, but if new lines are added, you may need to click and realign the fields that may be within the template.
More info on changing the source file can be found here.
